Photo by @stephenwilkes: The Bethlehem Steel plant was one of America’s largest steel producers from 1857-2003. Here lie steel scraps of the many great structures that made up the old steel mill. Ironically, the mass of these remnants overshadow the Bessemer furnaces that created them, hidden in the background of this image--now blocked by their product's remains. Today, much of the steel has been reused and re-purposed but serves as a reminder of what was. This image is part of a series titled, “Remnants”, which is sourced from work I have done over the years. It is one of many images that serve to remind us of what we leave behind in a world forever impacted by our actions and “needs”. Find out more about the series and see more images from the collection on my account @stephenwilkes. #RemnantsExhibit #BethlehemSteel #scraps #reuse #reduce by natgeo
