Photograph by @thomaspeschak Common dolphins are what I call baitball architects. During South Africa's sardine run they are the only predator fast, agile and intelligent enough to control the movement of the fish. In large pods these dolphins carve off smaller groups of sardines from the massive main shoals and herd them to the surface. Some dolphins will continue to circle and herd the fish while others rush in to feed on this silvery bounty. #southafrica #sardinerun #dolphins @natgeocreative To see more images from one of natures greatest wildlife spectacles you can follow @thomaspeschak by natgeo
