Palau has just passed legislation to fully protect 80 percent of the island nation's waters - the largest percentage of marine territory of any nation in the world. Just over a year ago, National Geographic Explorer-in-Residence @EnricSala led a #pristineseas expedition to explore Palau's remarkable offshore and deep-sea ecosystems, measuring local biodiversity and assessing the potential of protection. Today, President Remengesau and the government of Palau have taken an incredible step forward, protecting one of the last marine paradises for generations to come and setting an example for the rest of the world. #Palau by natgeo
