Photograph by @paulnicklen for @sea_legacy. King Penguins travel across a beach on South Georgia, Antarctica as they head back to their colony with bellies full of food for their chicks. The first time I set foot on this beach and stared out over 200,000 penguins, I was overcome with emotion, excitement and humility. To calm my nerves, I began to photograph. Within four hours, I had taken over 3500 images. This is equivalent to shooting 100 rolls of film. It helped. To see the image from that moment, #follow me on @paulnicklen. I can’t wait to share stories from the field as a conservationist, artist and photojournalist with the audience at the Beaty Biodiversity Museum at UBC, Vancouver Canada tomorrow night.
