NGC 6946. Sometimes referred to as The Fireworks Galaxy, 10 supernova have been observed in its spiral arms since 1917, about ten times the supernova rate observed in our home galaxy, even though the Milky Way has twice as many stars as NGC 6946. [1600 x 1600] (Credit: Subaru Telescope and NAOJ)
